Six days following the herds — river crossings in the north, calving in the south, private throughout.
The Migration is not one place but a moving season, and this itinerary moves with it: Tarangire's elephants on the way north, the central Serengeti's big cats, and two full days positioned where the herds actually are when you travel — the Mara River crossings in September, the green calving plains in February. Your guide reads the radio network and the grass, not a fixed schedule. That is the difference between a Migration safari and a Migration hope.

Tarangire National Park
Collect from your Arusha hotel or the airport, then west to Tarangire — baobab country and the park with Tanzania's largest elephant herds. Afternoon game drive to camp.

Tarangire to the Central Serengeti
Serengeti National Park
Up the Rift escarpment through Ngorongoro highlands to the Serengeti's central plains, game driving from the Naabi Hill gate onward. The kopjes and big cats begin.

Full day on the plains
Serengeti National Park
A full day with no schedule but the light: cheetah on the kopjes, lionprides in the river thickets, and the Migration's main column wherever it stands. Picnic breakfast in the bush.

Move north with the herds
Serengeti — Kogatende / Lobo
Drive north with the herds' line (season-dependent) to the northern Serengeti. Afternoon on the Mara River watching the crossings build.

Serengeti — Mara River
A second full day positioned on the river or with the mega-herds — the guide decides with the radio net. Wildebeest by the hundred thousand, crocodiles by the dozen.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Descend at dawn into the crater — black rhino among flamingo, lion on the road, breakfast by the hippo pool — then up and back to Arusha by evening.

Before you ask.
When are the river crossings?+
The Mara River crossings usually fall between late July and October, peaking in September. We position in the north for those dates; book six to nine months ahead for the best camps.
Is this suitable for children?+
Children over eight travel brilliantly on this route, and we shorten driving days with pool breaks at camps. We can also design a family version with softer pacing.
How much driving each day?+
Never more than four hours between stops, with full days on the ground in each park rather than transfer marathons.
