Two days is the shortest safari we sell — and the reason it exists is that sometimes two days is exactly what you have. The Tanzania Wilderness Escape pairs the two most rewarding parks within reach of Moshi: an afternoon and evening among Tarangire's elephant herds and baobabs, then a dawn descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for six hours on one of the densest wildlife floors in Africa. The format is deliberately efficient. Day one collects you from Moshi in the morning and spends the afternoon on Tarangire's river circuit, where the dry season concentrates some of Tanzania's largest elephant herds along the water and the baobab-studded hills provide the silhouette; wildlife viewing may include elephant at close quarters, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck and the park's understated big cats, with your guide adapting the route to where the herds are drinking that day. Night one is in the Tarangire or Manyara area, positioned for the morning's climb into the highlands. Day two is the crater. You leave early, cross the highlands as the sun rises, and descend the caldera's inner wall as the mist lifts — six hours of game driving on the floor, where wildlife viewing may include black rhino, large elephant bulls, buffalo, hippo, flamingo lakes and the crater's famously large lion prides, before the road returns you to Moshi by late afternoon. This safari suits travelers with very limited time, Zanzibar visitors adding a safari to a beach stay, couples on short itineraries, business travelers extending a stay and anyone flying out of Kilimanjaro International Airport who wants the bush before the flight. Accommodation will be selected according to availability and your preferred safari style, and alternative drop-offs — Arusha, the airport or another agreed location — can be arranged to fit your onward travel.

Your safari begins with a morning collection from your Moshi hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport, the road running south-west through Maasai steppe as the mountain fades behind you. You enter Tarangire around midday, and after a picnic lunch the afternoon is devoted to the river circuit: giant baobabs across the plains and, in the dry season, the Tarangire River drawing elephant herds that can number in the hundreds to its banks. Wildlife viewing may include elephant families at close quarters, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck, oryx and the lions Tarangire is quietly known for, with your guide adapting the route according to current conditions and the day's movements along the river. As the light turns the baobabs amber you exit the park for the short drive to your lodge or tented camp in the Tarangire / Manyara area, arriving in time for dinner and a night on safari — positioned for tomorrow's early climb into the Ngorongoro highlands.

You leave camp early for the climb into the Ngorongoro highlands, the road rising through Karatu's coffee country as the sun comes up, and by mid-morning you are at the crater rim looking down into the caldera. The descent begins as the mist lifts off the floor, and the next five to six hours are spent game driving one of the densest wildlife arenas in Africa: open grassland, the Lerai forest, soda lakes fringed with flamingo and permanent swamps, with wildlife viewing that may include black rhino, large elephant bulls, buffalo herds, hippo pools and the crater's famously large lion prides — all framed by the caldera's 600-metre walls. A picnic lunch is taken at a designated site on the crater floor before the track climbs back to the rim in the early afternoon. The road then runs through the highlands and Maasai country back to Moshi, arriving in the late afternoon in good time for evening flights or a final hotel night — two days, two parks, and a safari that will not feel short when you tell it.

Can we really do a safari in two days?+
Yes — with two carefully chosen parks and early starts. Tarangire gives you the classic savannah experience with big elephant herds, and the crater delivers extraordinary density in a single morning. It is the safari we recommend when the alternative is no safari at all.
Can we be dropped at the airport or in Arusha afterwards?+
Yes. The route as described returns to Moshi, but alternative drop-offs — Arusha, Kilimanjaro International Airport or another agreed location depending on your travel plans — can be arranged. Tell us your flight or connection and we will sequence the days around it.
Does it work straight after a Kilimanjaro trek?+
It is one of the most popular combinations we sell. We collect you from your Moshi hotel the morning after your trek ends and the pacing is gentle — a comfortable vehicle, short drives and one overnight before the crater.
