Machame Route

The 7-day Machame Route is a classic private Kilimanjaro trekking adventure combining dramatic scenery, varied terrain, and a well-known approach to the summit. Often recognized for its spectacular mountain landscapes, the route begins at Machame Gate and climbs through the lush rainforest before reaching the open moorland and Shira Plateau. As the trek progresses, the landscape changes dramatically, with volcanic formations, high valleys, and expansive views toward Kibo. One of the most important days is the trek from Shira toward Lava Tower and down into Barranco, allowing trekkers to gain significant elevation during the day before sleeping lower. The route then continues over the famous Barranco Wall toward Karanga and eventually Barafu Camp. From Barafu, the summit attempt begins around midnight, leading through the high alpine environment toward Stella Point and Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. After celebrating at the summit, trekkers descend toward Millennium Camp before making the final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. With private guiding, camping accommodation, varied landscapes, and a structured seven-day schedule, the Machame Route provides an immersive way to experience Kilimanjaro.
