Northern Circuit Route
Extended private Kilimanjaro trek with excellent acclimatization
Northern Circuit Route
The 9-day Northern Circuit Route is an extended private Kilimanjaro trek designed to provide a gradual approach to the summit while allowing travelers to explore the mountain's remote northern slopes. Beginning on the western side, the journey passes through the lush rainforest before reaching the Shira Plateau and then continues toward the quieter northern circuit. The extended itinerary gives trekkers more time to adapt to increasing elevation while experiencing Kilimanjaro's changing ecological zones. The route passes through moorland, alpine desert, and the high-altitude environment surrounding Kibo, with broad views of the mountain's volcanic landscape throughout the journey. Rather than following the most direct line toward the summit, the Northern Circuit travels around the northern slopes before approaching Kibo for the final ascent. The summit day takes trekkers from high camp to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters before the route descends through the southern side of Kilimanjaro. The final descent passes through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Private guiding, camping accommodation, an extended schedule, and a gradual route profile make this itinerary suitable for travelers who want to spend more time experiencing Kilimanjaro rather than rushing through the mountain.
